Choose a supported operating system. Your screen should be at least 1024 × 768 pixels.
ARM-based Windows and Ubuntu are not supported.
Connect with the USB cable that came with your Ledger. USB-C adapters work fine.
Pick your computer below for the right installation steps. Always download from ledger.com/ledger-wallet.
Visit the official Ledger Wallet download page ↗.
Open the downloaded .dmg, then drag Ledger Wallet into your Applications folder.
Launch it from Applications, Launchpad, or Spotlight. If macOS shows a security prompt, choose Open to allow it.
Use the official Ledger Wallet download page ↗.
Open the .exe and follow the prompts. If Windows SmartScreen says it doesn’t recognize the app, choose Yes to proceed after verifying the source.
If your system only allows Microsoft Store apps, verify the installer came directly from ledger.com before continuing.
Follow the official LedgerHQ udev-rules instructions ↗ so your device is recognized.
Get the Linux AppImage from ledger.com/ledger-wallet ↗.
Allow the downloaded AppImage to execute, then launch it. AppImageLauncher can add a convenient menu entry.
The mobile app is useful for checking balances and approving transactions. It complements desktop—some features remain desktop-only.
Open Ledger Wallet, connect your device, then choose the path that matches your situation.
Launch the app. You’ll land on a dashboard with a prompt to connect.
Plug in your Ledger. The app will detect your device.
Press both buttons on a Nano, or tap Allow on a touchscreen model.
Install an app on your Ledger to manage assets on that blockchain. Apps run on the device—not in your computer’s browser.
Once an app is installed, add an account for that asset. Then follow the device prompts for receiving or sending.
In Ledger Wallet, open Accounts, choose Add account, then select an asset. Confirm on your Ledger when prompted.
Open Receive, select the account, and display your address. Then compare it with the address shown on your Ledger screen.
Enter the recipient and amount under Send. Your Ledger shows the transaction details, including address, amount, and fee.
Ledger Wallet supports more than 100 assets directly and thousands of tokens through supported ecosystems. Not every chain has a native Ledger Wallet experience.
Monero and a handful of privacy-focused or niche chains aren’t managed directly in Ledger Wallet. Check Ledger’s official supported assets list before assuming a coin will work.
Self-custody gives you control—and makes your recovery phrase and on-device checks essential.
Your 24 words are the backup that restores your wallet. Write them on paper, keep them offline, and never photograph, type, or share them. Lose the phrase and the device, and there’s no password reset.
Malware can swap an address shown on your computer. Compare it to the device screen every time—if it doesn’t match, stop.
Phishing sites and search ads can imitate Ledger. Go directly to ledger.com/ledger-wallet or use a bookmark you trust.
On Stax and Flex, Ledger Recovery Key is an NFC card backup for your recovery phrase, protected with its own PIN. A carefully kept paper backup is still a valid option.
You may see both names while Ledger’s app branding transitions. Here’s the short version.
Ledger Live was the original name of Ledger’s companion app. Ledger is transitioning the brand to Ledger Wallet, with the 4.0 update rolling out progressively.
Whether a page or screen says Ledger Live or Ledger Wallet, make sure you’re using the official app and download from ledger.com/ledger-wallet.
